Bizzabo has built a LinkedIn for real-life. The app seeks to simplify networking at meetups and conferences by directing you to the people in the room that it feels you should be in contact with at each event. It also handles a chunk of the event organizing by sending alerts to users in the room about scheduling.
The startup was founded by Eran Ben-Shushan, Alon Alroy and Boaz Katz and only launched out of private beta at the end of June. Today, the Israel-based company announced closing a $1.5 million round of funding lead by Kaeden Capital Group, Gigi Leve, Professor Yair Tauman, and AfterDox angels group.
Bizzabo’s co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Alon Alroy, notes, “We truly believe there is a huge need for a single networking app for events. People are tired of downloading a different white-label app for each conference they go to, or not having an app at all.”
The networking app aims to put the funds toward launching a US branch, increasing their team size, and harnessing more opportunities for their app through targeting more event organizers. Bizzabo is also looking to build out their cross-event connectedness, so you’ll know who in the current event will be at the same conference as you next week.
“For example, imagine you chatted with a potential strategic partner at one of the PandoMonthly meetups and you ‘marked him as a lead.’” says Alroy, “A week later, you might get a push notification from Bizzabo saying: ‘John Doe whom you met at PandoMonthly is also attending Google I/O next week.’ Many more “multi-event” features are going to be released very soon.”
It’ll be interesting to see how it pans out for the startup in the run-up to several major tech conferences occurring over the next few months, all conveniently listed out on Bizzabo’s blog.
