10 years ago, Safari was named
It was the summer of ’02, and Steve Jobs needed a name for his new Web browser that was to be shipped by the end of the year. They stumbled through names such as “Freedom” which got nixed due to a feminine hygiene product with the same name. They joked around with “iBrowser”, and settled on “Alexander” for a long time, but somehow Safari was born, from an unknown person in a private place, and it stuck ever since.
