Apple appeals Brazilian iPhone trademark ruling
To no one’s surprise, Apple has appealed a recent ruling in Brazilian court, stripping it of exclusive trademark rights to the iPhone name within the country. The electronics giant currently has co-rights to the brand with Gradiente Eletronica, which applied for the trademark in 2000 and received it in 2008. According to Brazilian law, Gradiente will need to prove that it made use of the trademark within five years of receiving it. The company released an Android smartphone under the iPhone brand in December 2012. Does anyone have a calculator? [Source: Reuters]
