Apple Bids to Settle EU Ebook Price Fixing Case
According to a Reuters source, Apple and four major publishers will bid to end an EU antitrust investigation by allowing competing retailers (such as Amazon) to sell ebooks at a discount for two years. The EU Antitrust authorities began investigating the publishers and iTunes marketplace in December for possible price collusion. The deal in question stipulated fixed prices for books on iTunes and had language prohibiting them from selling for cheaper prices elsewhere, including on Amazon.
