Apple has been dealt a major blow in Brazil, where regulators have ruled that it does not have exclusive rights to use the “iPhone” trademark in the country in association with handsets. A local company called Gradiente Eletronica registering the name in 2000, seven years before its US counterpart. Apple stil retains exclusive rights to the iPhone name in other categories such as clothing, software, and in publication.  Gradiente still has the option of suing for exclusivity in the handset category, despite not having released a product under the name until 2012. The company sells a 599 real ($304) Android-powered device called iPhone Neo One produced by none other than iPhone manufacturer, Foxconn. [Source: BBC]
