Bookrenter, a college textbook rental company, has launched a new product it hopes will lead to faster disruption in the slow-to-evolve college textbook market by cutting to the source of it all–the professors and universities. Rafter has partnerships with college campuses and serves as a networking tool for professors to evaluate new books and teaching plans. The company also provides tools for universities, bookstores and students. Bookrenter, which launched in 2006, has $56 million in venture backing. [Source: Rafter]
