Compete and FTC reach settlement
Compete, a web analytics company, and the FTC have reached a settlement over the company’s deceptive way of collecting data. The company tracks users’ data, collects information, and sells it businesses with the hopes of increasing traffic. The issue the FTC had was the fact Compete wasn’t up front with users and what sort of data was actually being collected. Because of its sneaky ways, Compete now must be audited for 20 years, get consent from all users, and destroy all data it currently has from past users. [Source AllThingsD]
