Daughter of CEO Eric Schmidt provides dismal insight into North Korea
It has been widely reported about Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt and former New Mexico governor Bill Richardson’s humanitarian trip to North Korea. But with such canned statements like, “Overall, the technology in North Korea is very limited right now,” made by Schmidt it is hard to really grasp what is going on in North Korea. That is until Schmidt’s daughter, Sophie, decided to provide her two cents. In a blog post on Google Sites page, Sophie discusses not only the extremely cold climate but the cold demeanor of state-approved North Koreans. She recalls how she had to “declare any “killing device,” GPS technology, or “publishings of all kinds” they might be carrying,” and also how the visitors got to witness North Koreans use of technology. “No one was actually doing anything. A few scrolled or clicked, but the rest just stared. More disturbing: when our group walked in–a noisy bunch, with media in tow–not one of them looked up from their desks. Not a head turn, no eye contact, no reaction to stimuli. They might as well have been figurines.” [Source CNNMoney/Google Sites]
