Dell Creates Military-Grade Tactical Mobile Data Centers
Dell’s new “Tactical Mobile Data Centers” are self-contained server rooms built within a 10 cubic foot weather, dust, and sand proof shipping container. The mobile data center can be airlifted using a variety of military aircraft and are designed to camouflage with other standard containers regularly present on military bases. The centers also include built in ventilation and automatic fire-suppression systems. Each container contains 120U of server space in three 42U-15KW capacity server racks which can connect to an ad hoc network using either copper, fiber optic, or BNC quick-connect links. The purpose-built shell and IT equipment, excluding servers, storage, and switches costs $221,500. [Source Gizmodo]
