FBI releases Aaron Swartz file
Aaron Swartz, the Internet activist who took his own life while facing possible prison time over hacking charges, had a file on record with the FBI. FireDogLake requested the file and the FBI (mostly) complied, providing 21 of 23 pages. Most of the information here was already out in the open, but it’s notable that the FBI, in investigating Swartz’s connection to accessing certain records, determined that Swartz had not committed a crime and therefore closed the investigation. As FireDogLake’s DSWright notes, “If only U.S Attorney Ortiz had taken the same reasonable stance” when investigating the JSTOR case. [Source: FireDogLake]
