FCC Chairman endorses Dish Network’s wireless plans
After a long and contentious battle, Dish Network received the endorsment of the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission yesterday for its proposed alternative wireless service. Market leaders AT&T and Verizon hold more than 60 percent of all wireless contracts in the US, making the market an effective duopoly that the FCC is eager to disrupt. The chairman previously endorsed similar plans from Lightsquared, but saw that project scrapped due to technical difficulties. The remaining four commissioners will need to approve Dish’s plan for it to move forward. [Source ArsTechnica]
