Germany to Facebook: Delete Your Illegal Facial Recognition Data
Data protection officials in Germany are demanding that Facebook destroy its archive of facial recognition data, claiming that the info was collected without users’ consent. The social network uses the data to suggest friends who can be tagged in newly uploaded photos. Users can opt out of the feature, but European data protection laws require explicit consent in the form of an opt-in. Facebook has been fighting the inquiry since mid-2011.
