After RIM appointed a new CEO, Thorston Heins, neither technology pundits nor investors were happy. Heins, it turned out, was exactly like the bosses he was supposed to replace. Now, Heins is sounding more like the CEO of a company in its death throes, admitting that his job is “to help RIM catch up”. While that’s a good goal, you can’t really win the game if your goal is only to catch up. Your goal needs to be surpassing the competition, and that’s how you win.
