How Hollywood’s math could help the indie revolution
How does a filmmaker, promised 5 percent of a movie’s profits, end up getting next to nothing on a movie that raked in over $225 million and cost just $19 million to make? According to Techdirt, the answer is that Hollywood’s accounting really sucks. Scott Derrickson, the director in question, followed his account by saying that the rise of cheaper cameras and production costs and the ability to work outside of the studios’ control will be a huge shift for movies.
