Judge: Friends Can Share Your Private Facebook Info With Cops
A federal judge has ruled that law enforcement can access a user’s Facebook profile if one of their friends gives them permission to do so. The decision came in a NYC racketeering trial when the defendant sought to invoke the Fourth Amendment to suppress leading to his indictment. The defendant’s “legitimate expectation of privacy ended when he disseminated posts to his ‘friends’ because those ‘friends” were free to use the information however they wanted” according to the ruling. Sounds like a slippery slope, but perhaps people should just stop confessing to crimes over social media. [Source GigaOM]
