Kenya’s Mobile Payments Revolution
A company called m-Pesa has changed the way people purchase goods in Kenya. Launched in 2007, their mobile service allows users to pay for anything in seconds without any cash. This means no cash, no walking for miles to reach a bank, no waiting in long lines when you get there, and no risk of being robbed of all the cash you spent hours getting in your hands. Its now used by over half the population of Kenya.
