Murdoch’s Times to Allow Indexing of Two Sentences Per Article
Two years after locking out search engines from indexing its content, Rupert Murdoch’s The Times has decided to unlock the first two sentences of each article for indexing. The limited free preview is designed to attract more subscribers for the company who gets 30 to 40 percent of its traffic from search. One must wonder whether writers will be instructed to game the system by, more so than usual, tailoring the first two sentences of each article to incentivize further reading.
