Opera, the maker of a popular desktop and mobile Web browser, has acquired Skyfire for $155 million to gain access to its streaming video compression technology. Opera’s more than 100 global carrier relationships will aid in deployment of Skyfire, which currently only has three of its own such partnerships. Skyfire CEO Jeff Glueck will become EVP of Opera’s operator business unit and remain CEO of Skyfire. The transaction is expected to close by March 15. [Source: VentureBeat]
