Senate approves bill requiring warrants for e-mails
Today, the government can access any e-mail that has been sitting in an inbox for over 180 days, if they believe the information will be useful in an investigation. While the battle for privacy is far from over, Senate passed a bill prohibiting the governments access to private e-mail accounts without a warrant. This does not include The Patriot Act, which still grants the government to overpass any privacy laws in the case of terrorism. This will not stop short of just e-mail, of course, and may expand into social media sites like Facebook as well. [Source: Wired]
