SpaceX signs its first two military contracts with the US Air Force
Elon Musk’s SpaceX has won its first two military contracts. The US Air Force engaged the company, first to launch a Falcon 9 carrying the NASA DSCOVR satellite which will orbit between the earth and the sun, and second to launch a Falcon Heavy with multiple satellites and a 5 ton metric ballast. The contracts are funded under the Air Force’s OSP-3 program, which is designed specifically to utilize new launch companies. SpaceX competitor ULA (United Launch Alliance) currently dominates the Air Force launch market. [Source: ArsTechnica]
