United becomes first U.S. airline to offer overseas WiFi
United has equipped its Boeing 747 with internet service that can be used almost anytime during a customer’s flight experience—exceptions are during taxi, takeoff, and landing—for overseas flights. The service, provided by Panasonic equipment, will allow passengers to choose between standard (price range $4 to $15) or accelerated (price range between $6 and $20). By the end of 2013, United plans on expanding and will offer the service on 300 planes. [Source: Engadget]
