The University of Michigan, through partnerships with Ford, Chevy, Honda, and others, as well as support from nearly 3,000 drivers, is turning Ann Arbor into a driving data goldmine. The drivers’ cars will be outfitted with Dedicated Short Range Communications systems, which will send up to 10 messages per second about what the car is doing. The data may be useful in making the self-driving car a reality, and is the largest test of its type.
