Version-itus: Microsoft announces yet another fork of Windows 8, now for retailers
Discontent to stop at the maddeningly named Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Phone 8, Microsoft today revealed a fourth version of its next-gen operating system aimed at retailers. Windows Embedded 8 Handheld promises to give store associates “advanced tools such as voice search and easy-to-use, touch-enabled business apps.” The company announced a pilot program launching in Home Depot stores this year and hardware partnerships with Motorola, Bluebird, Honeywell, Ingenico, Intermec, and Qualcomm.
