Yelp uses “sting operations” to combat fake reviews
When restaurants attempt to game Yelp’s review system, it threatens to undermine the legitimacy of the entire platform. So to help thwart businesses who purchase positive reviews, Yelp has been conducting “sting operations” for at least a month. At Business Insider’s IGNITION event today, CEO Jeremy Stoppelman confirmed that they monitor Craigslist ads which call for paid reviewers to help juice businesses’ Yelp ratings.
