WeChat, the world’s largest instant messaging app, today released an update that includes a new sticker store. At the store, WeChat’s users can pay for animated emoticons and illustrations that liven up their chat experience.

On Thursday, couples chat app Couple launched a sticker store with a “buy one, get one free” approach that means you and your Significant Other can liven up your chat experience without both of you having to pay twice for the same animated-icon pack. (Couple competitor Avocado has been offering stickers since February; Between, another competitor, has been offering them since January.)

Also on Thursday, Canadian-made mobile chat app Kik opened a sticker shop, which features characters from the TV shows “South Park” and “Adventure Time,” allowing users to liven up their chat experience.

B.HugFour weeks ago, Path doubled down on stickers, adding the cutesy paid-for illustrations that liven up its chat experience to its iPad app, extending the sticker shop it opened in March.

In May, Facebook added stickers to Facebook Messenger, considerably livening up its chat experience.

Tango, KakaoTalk, and Nimbuzz have long offered stickers that liven up the chat experience.

MessageMe doesn’t yet offer stickers, but it will likely soon liven up the chat experience by doing just that. It has a “Sticker” option in its chat window just waiting to be activated.

In the first quarter of this year, Japan’s leading mobile chat app, Line, made $17 million on stickers alone, considerably livening up its bottom line.

The mobile future is bright, lucrative, all-pervasive.

And it is full of stickers.
