"Fashion icon" Lindsay Lohan accused of stealing idea for a "virtual closet" app
Lindsay Lohan and her brother are tech entrepreneurs now, apparently. And also, if a cease and desist from Fima Potik is to be believed, intellectual property thieves.
According to the New York Post, Lohan and her brother, Michael Jr., were previously involved in a "virtual closet" app called Spotted Friend, which was described as "A Fima Potik & Lindsay Lohan Production.” Recently, however, Michael Jr announced he was raising money for a similar app, using his sister as a celebrity endorser...
Last month, Page Six reported that LiLo’s little brother was raising money for Vigme, a “social shopping community.” He said, “If Lindsay buys something, it goes into her [virtual] closet. People see what’s in her closet. If someone else buys [the same item], it puts money into Lindsay’s pocket.”
...[Potik's] lawyer, Marc E. Kasowitz, wrote, “Prior to their involvement in Vigme, [the Lohans and Roth] were members of Spotted Friend LLC, a social commerce startup that was founded by Fima Potik in 2013. It is Mr. Potik — not the Lohans — that created and developed the idea for a mobile application that allows users to access celebrities’ and friends’ ‘virtual closets’ and to directly purchase fashion items and accessories from these ‘virtual closets.’ Lohan's lawyers are disputing that telling of events, telling the Post:
“Allegations of any impropriety in Lindsay Lohan’s business relationship concerning this Web site are inaccurate and clearly designed to capitalize on her worldwide recognition as a fashion icon.”Whatever the outcome of the cease and desist, the Lohans will always have their plan b to fall back on. In April of last year the Post (your first source for Lindsey Lohan app news) reported that the siblings had also taken an equity stake in exchange for promoting karaoke app "Just Sing It."
The app, which the Post describes as a musical version of Draw Something currently has 4.5 stars in Apple's app store, with a little under 3000 reviews. Much of that success, of course, is down to Lohan's worldwide recognition as a singing icon.
