I, like you, hate those posts that are really just an excuse to embed someone else's video.

I, like you, hate even more those posts that are really just an excuse to embed someone else's video ad.

There really is no excuse for it. It's lazy, it's cheap and -- Jesus Christ -- it's an ad.

But then, on the eve of the California and New Jersey primaries, Air Canada (note: not a Pando advertiser) plastered the Internet with this video ad, aimed at people who might -- for whatever reason --be thinking about moving to Canada.

The ad, apparently is the work of J. Walter Thompson Canada and is targetted to browsers in Los AngelesSan FranciscoNew YorkBoston, and Washington, D.C. (I didn't receive the press release, I stumbled across the video displayed on a third party site.)

It's almost impossible to produce an ad that a) references this election cycle and b) isn't partisan c) doesn't seem heavy handed, or ham-fisted and d) is actually funny and effective.

As we get closer to Armaggeddon, I encourage all online video advertisers to learn all they can from Air Canada's mastery of the form.

See you in Canada!
